Workers do not like Amazon
Amazon workers have blamed it for forcing them to work without breaks. Workers had to pass urine in the bottle. Amazon is world’s biggest company.
Amazon’s warehouse employees earn an annual salary of $31200. They survive on government’s help for food and medical aid. It means that taxpayers are subsiding Amazon’s growth and profits. It has received subsidies for INR 30,000 cr. to open warehouses. It tracks its workers every moment. They can not slack for more than few seconds. It copies the successful products from other businesses, and sells it on its website, harming the business. It drives the salaries down, and does not promote more than 3% of the employees. It does not offer sick leave to its warehouse workers.
Entrepreneur Dan Price wrote :
Amazon doesn’t offer paid sick leave, even in a pandemic (it recently boasted that it pays workers with covid, which is required under federal law).
On one day last year Jeff Bezos added $12 billion to his net worth, or 10x the cost of 2 weeks companywide paid sick leave.
Workers and employees in e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart and gig economy companies such as Uber and Zomato are not in a bargaining position. They end up losing income and benefits. At the same time its owners such as Jeff Bezos gain money by the minute. Amazon did not pay $62mn as tips to its drivers, while it made $62mn per minute.
