Indian consumers may employ less house help and become more self reliant
Indian consumers may have to forego the luxury of house-help. COVID-19 has forced them to do their own chores such as cooking and cleaning. Vice Presidents and Chief Executive Officers of companies were boasting how they did the household work.
Grashima Sahani is a marketer and a strategist. She had predicted that many Indian consumers would upgrade to better kitchen appliances such as dishwasher, dough makers and chopping equipment. Indian consumers are also looking to replace the preliminary home cleaning with vaccum cleaner and spin mops. Female self-grooming appliances such as epilator will be in demand.
Grashima wrote in WARC, “Most trends that leapfrogged into something big in this new normal, were at various nascent stages of adoption in pre-COVID India. Take for example digital media adoption, preference for video content, rise in digital payments, health consciousness, and even acceptance of e-learning…”
Predicting about the future is tricky. The trends are about the current scenario. If the government mitigates the pandemic or gets the vaccines for the population, the availability of cheap labour will bring back the status quo.
