Gigs exploit freelancers. They do not earn the living wages. Research predicts that about 50% of the work will be gig economy.
As per FT gig economy businesses such as Uber, Grubhub, Doordash are either incurring losses or in huge debt. As per Finshot Swiggy and Zomato have equal footprints, but are incurring huge losses. Hotel owners on Oyo’s platform are earning less than before. Gig economy workers do not get the job protection as full time job holders do. A food delivery executive makes less than the average fair wage in UK.

As per economist Mahesh Vyas, India is not offering high quality employment opportunities. Gig economy focuses on labor intensive jobs, without much scope for growth.
