COVID–19 can act as a catalyst for India businesses, as it will provide opportunities to formalise and professionalise the millions of small businesses. India requires 6 lakh doctors and 25 lakh nurses as it could not build its healthcare system in the past.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran gave Lalit Doshi Memorial lecture. He highlighted the opportunities for the Indian businesses due to the COVID–19.
India has the right human capital to become the global leader in research and development, science and technology and next generation products and services.
If businesses can help existing healthcare professionals with activities such as filing prescriptions, logging appointments and and administrative paperwork, it will increase the productivity.
Employing more women will create more opportunities as 12 crore educated women do not participate in the labour force. 23% women with the graduate medical degrees do not work.
Small businesses can not survive due to the economic stress. In a typical economy they generate one third of the private sector jobs.
India requires electricity micro grids, which can be up and running within two months. It can supply power to small villages and towns.
He said, “Jugaad, tweaks and tricks will not fully solve present day problems and India needs to rethink and redesign the whole economy in the post-Covid world.”
