Can Rathore create India’s first bespoke brand?
India is the original bespoke country.
India is the original bespoke country.
Traditionally Indians have worn bespoke clothes. Big and small tailors catered to male and female audience.
It’s still popular with the females and small towns and cities.
As readymade clothes become more affordable, bespoke is losing its utility and charm, except for the designer wear.
Raghvendra is amongst the successful designers. He runs seven stores in five cities. His clients include Saif Ali Khan, Aakash Ambani and Virat Kohli. He made traditional Rajasthani dresses cool.
Can Raghvendra Rathore restore the bespoke culture?
Forbes reports that he has partnered with Reliance Fashion and Zegna ( one of the world’s largest menswear brands with 500 stores in 120 countries), to build a pan India bespoke menswear brand.
He plans to shift the typical designer brands in India from personality led to consumer led. Zegna will help him customise offerings.
His brand will help the middle class Indian to dress like a Maharajas, beyond marriages and functions. Only India has such an advantage, unlike Japan or China.
