How to succeed as a freelancer
Freelancers take time to earn six figure fees. It takes years to build the pipeline and profile. Tom Hirst made more than INR 5cr in the past four years.
Tom Hirst is a freelance web developer. He has been freelancing for ten years. He shared his journey of getting well paying clients, work life balance and a flexible work routine. The key thing is to narrow down and stick around. Narrowing down means asking questions such as what do I do better than the most and what do I want to do for long time. Freelancers should avoid working for free. Freelancers should raise the prices regularly. He suggests creating a personal website with good SEO, with blogs of answering clients’ problems to generate leads.
He wrote on Twitter, “Unless you have years of specific expertise and career contacts, you won’t make big money from freelancing overnight.
Don’t let anyone sell you this dream.
My first £100K year came after 7 in business.”
He also wrote that it is not about working hard or smart. It is about working hard, so that one can work smart too. The most important thing is to know that business is not everything. So, he advises freelancers to value the family, have fun and listen to the mind and body.
