It could be better or worse
Business owners and entrepreneurs hire business coaches to grow their businesses. It is a $15bn industry with about 6 lakh coaches.
Bill Campbell was the business coach of Steve Jobs, Larry Page, Sunder Picchai and CEOs of Twitter. Before becoming the business coach he was the CEO of Intuit. CEOs credit him with creating value worth $1000bn. After understanding what founders wanted, he showed them the process to achieve the goals and objectives.
As per HBR: Executive coaching consists of highly personal one-on-one and team interventions between coaches and senior executives, and it usually lasts several months. Such coaching is fundamentally a business proposition. Its purpose is to produce learning, behavioral change, and growth in the coachee for the economic benefit of a third party — the client that employs the coachee.
Business coaching is not a silver bullet. Without industry standards it is difficult to pick the right coach. Coaches tend to influence founders beyond their brief, and harm businesses. Coaches treat symptoms and not disorder. It is expensive.
