Founder of INR 3000 crore revenue Sarvana Bhavan died of a heart attack. P Rajagopal had surrendered to the court on 8th July, for murdering his ex-colleague’s wife.
In 1968 he started his journey by setting up a grocery shop. In 1981 he bought a loss making restaurant as per his astrologer’s advice. He offered quality food at affordable prices. Today it operates in 82 locations in India (39)and abroad (43). Its Delhi outlet is in Rajeev Chowk. It employs 8700 people. That’s how he earned the nickname ‘Dosa King’.
Restaurant chains like Sarvana Bhavan prove that Indian market is receptive to Indian quick service restaurants (QSR). A variant of this concept has produced more than 5000 QSRs in Bengaluru.
