Brief:
Delhi government released the ‘draft electricity vehicle policy’, 2018.
It wants 25% of vehicles, and 50% of buses to be electric. Shenzhen’s entire bus fleet is electric.
Only .1% of cars and .2% of two wheelers are electric . 83% of vehicles in Delhi are cars and two wheelers. 17 % are commercial and non-electric.
Electric vehicles cost 4x
One electric bus costs INR 3 crores approx. Internal combustion engine (ICE) costs 1.25 crores.
Basic electric scooter costs INR 115,000. Honda Activa costs INR 65,000.
How will Delhi shift to electric?
Trials are going for the electric buses.It plans to buy 500 buses.
Government will offer subsidy to manufacturers to bring the price at par with the ICE vehicles.
It will also install government charging stations. Private players can also install their stations.
It will help last mile connectors such as e-rickshaws and 3 sweater rickshaws with easy loans and subsidies.

Operating the fleet for the government and private. Tender is out for the government.
