Social media companies want to turn small businesses into technology companies. They will offer the tools, which will help its users do social commerce. Fintech and payment technology companies are also targeting the same group.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook wrote: The area we’re most focused on is helping small businesses.Over the next decade, we hope to build the commerce and payments tools so that every small business has easy access to the same technology that previously only big companies have had.
India is the biggest market for Facebook. It has about 24 crore million Facebook users, 460 crore Whatsapp users and 7.3 crore Instagram users. It is already running the pilot of Whatsapp Payment. About 14 crore small businesses use Facebook ecosystem. Expect more offerings from Facebook to Indian micro and small businesses.
