Sesame Street’s success was because of right targeting

Sesame Street did not air those episodes, which kids did not pay attention to. Researchers tried to distract kids, but most shows got more than 90% attention.
More than 50% of the US households owned television, but about 50% of the schools did not have kindergartens. Carnegie Corporation commissioned Children Television Workshop to harness TV as an education tool. The team employed a psychologist to understand the minds of the children. It also created an equipment, which could distract kids, by showing slides of random images. It has completed 50 seasons. It shows short films with humour and cultural references.
As per Newsweek: The show’s impact has been as profound overseas. Sesame Street is now exported to 16 countries and regions — places such as the Palestinian territories, Kosovo and Bangladesh, where the message of tolerance can be in short supply. In South Africa, where as recently as 2008 the president insisted that HIV does not cause AIDS, the show features a ginger-colored, HIV-positive Muppet. The South African Sesame is also now produced in 12 of the country’s official languages.
Sesame Street’s success gave birth to Children’s TV as a genre. Shows such as Teletubbies became huge hits with the children. Though, critics and the press hated it, kids loved it. Today Youtube has the similar reach as that of TV of then, yet it is not as useful.
