From a shack in a park to a billion dollar brand
Shake Shack started as an experiment
Shake Shack started as an experiment
Shake Shack did not start to become a billion dollar brand. It started as an art installation. For first three years it incurred losses. Later it launched as Shake Shack, and started making money. Seventy-five percent of all new restaurant ventures fail, and of those that do stick around, only a few become icons.
Danny Meyer is the founder of Shake Shack. Before starting it, he had founded world’s top rated restaurants such as Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe and Tabula. He wrote a book- ‘Setting The Table’, where he shared his journey of building the hopsitality empire.
The secret for success of Shake Shack and Union Square Hospitality restaurants are its employees’ hospitality quotient. Danny believes that if the employees aren’t happy, the customers will see through it. While hiring, he looks for six qualities.
Indian restaurant businesses will benefit from adopting the six qualities:
Kindness and optimism
Intellectual curiosity
Work ethic
Empathy
Self awareness
Integrity
Tip: These qualities are technology proof.
