Royal Enfield’s new launch allows it to compete with Harley’s bikes. Until the launch brands such as Harley, Indian, Triumph were the only ones selling super premium bikes. Not any more.
Brief:
Royal Enfield has launched Interceptor, a 625 cc engine bike.
The company hopes to change that with the Interceptor and the Continental 650 starting at Rs 2.65 lakh .
Harley Davidson, BMW and Triumph motorcycles cost more than Rs 5 lakh
Is it not a leader already?
While it leads the premium segment with Classic 350 ( 35 lakh customers) and 500 cc bikes, newer competitors like Jawa have entered the market.
Foreign brands are not selling in big numbers due to the higher price tag.
It’s a wise move to capture the new segment, where no one is the leader now.
Bigger picture:
Delhi-NCR is the hub of motorcycling culture. As a result there are businesses providing goods and services for riding enthusiasts. Some examples are guided tours to Himalayas and motorcycle gear brands producing jackets, boots, helmets and other customized products. Affordable super premium bikes will mean more business for the local hubs such as Karol bagh.
