Social media influencers are monetising their online presence and followers. Followers are the captive audience for the brands to advertise. Priyanka Chopra charges about Rs 1.87 crore per post on Instagram. Virat Kohli charges about Rs 1.35 crore.
Influencers earn money through brand partnerships and ad revenues from platforms such as Youtube, Instagram and Tiktok. Influencers range from actors to celebrities to digital native content creators. They charge for the number of posts on their accounts. Charges range from INR 3000 to INR 8,000 for upto 5,000 followers, INR 7,000- INR 18,000 for upto 30,000 followers, and INR 1.5 lakh to INR 7 lakh for more than 5lakh followers.
Natasha Daruwala, who is part of a marketing agency, Influencer, says, “If a celebrity tells you to buy a certain product, you might take it with a pinch of salt. But when someone, whom you have been following for a long time and trust, recommends a product and tells you in detail about it, chances are that you will buy it.”
The global influencer market is expected to reach $15 billion by 2022, up from $8 billion in 2019. Influencers are putting up paywall to charge for the exclusive content. They will use tools such as Patreon (fees), analytics and social media nice features (close friends).
