Usha Batra started a catering business to earn money for the family. Her sons took her recipe and built a restaurant empire.
Usha Batra did catering for three banquets in West Delhi. She started with INR 1600, and built a small business. She cooked breakfast for Sikh weddings, mid-morning kitty parties, lunch parties for local committees, tea parties for children’s birthdays and dinner parties for everything from anniversaries and birthdays to weddings and mehendi ceremonies. Her son Vikrant Batra launched Cafe Delhi Heights with his mom’s support. Today it runs more than 25 restaurants. Its revenue will cross INR 100 crore for the year 2019–2020.
Like Usha Batra, Christine Samandara left Paris to help her son Laurent start L’Opera. It runs 17 outlets in Delhi NCR. Urmila helped her son Ankit start Burma Burma. It has 3 outlets in Delhi-NCR and 1 in Bengaluru. Hence it proves that Moms are key to successful restaurants.
