Rajesh Ojha and Ajay Sud did not have to travel to Shangrila to experience its beauty. Instead, they went to Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. It was not open to public till 1992. They set up their first camp in Sangla.
In 1993 they started Banjara Camps as a soft adventure business. It provides family holidays stays in lodges and homestay in Kinnaur and Spiti. Sangla is at 20,000 feet, surrounded by snow clad mountains. They bootstrapped the business with INR 4 lakhs, as they did not have collaterals to approach the banks. By 1999 their revenue rose to INR 35 lakhs, doubling year on year. 80% of their clients are from India, and rest from abroad. Today they operate in five locations.
Rajesh also co-founded Roots Cafe in 2011. It’s an open air cafe in Gurgaon. He also co-founded Cafe Lota in 2013. Gradually the food business (The Melting Pot Tiffins) has four outlets and online delivery.
