PM Modi’s Make In India campaign aimed to establish India among the top manufacturing countries in the world. Yet, the government hired an American advertising agency to launch the campaign.
American agency Wieden and Kennedy (W+K) crafted ‘Make In India campaign’ for the Indian government. Sunil Vyasprath and Mohit Jayal led the campaign for W+K. W+K had acquired their agency ‘A’ to set up the Indian office. Both became partners, and went on to impactful campaigns for brands such as Indigo, Enfield, Forrest Essentials and Nike.
Sunil writes, “We said it then. We are saying it now. Make profit in India. Make progress in India. Make in India.”
W+K is an American agency, but its talent and profits are Indian. It is similar to Hindustan Unilever Limited, which has dutch ownership, but it has been in India for close to 100 years. India requires such local businesses, which have local footprints.
