Uniqlo announced India’s entry. It will set up its first store in Delhi in 2019.

Uniqlo started in 1984. It sells casual clothes.
Zara and H&M are its competitors, who sell trendy clothing and jewelry.
It has 1089 stores worldwide.
It made a profit of $1.57 bn on sales of $16.87 bn.
Fast Retailing Co. is its holding company. Its other brands are GU, Theory, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Princesse tam.tam, and J Brand
It aims to become world’s largest fashion retailer.
What does it mean?
High demand for fast fashion; India’s fashion retail market is worth $70 bn .
Muji, another Japanese retail major has opened four stores in India ( 2 in Delhi-NCR).
Positive signs for local garment manufacturers; as these brands will source from local manufacturers.
