Founders ignore their mental health, as they pursue growth and survival. Negative mental health leads to business failures.
As per courier Courier 78% of founders say that running a business has negatively impacted their mental health. Nearly 70% report feeling depressed; 55% say they are burnt out; 50% experience anxiety and panic attacks; and 68% say they struggle with their sleep — a symptom often seen as a precursor to mental illness.
Rand Fishkin is founder of Moz. He quit after few missteps, due to depression. He wrote on his blog, “Don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense to you. It doesn’t make sense to me, either. I know I fucked up. I know I let down a lot of people. I know I was depressed. And I know that right now, I’m OK. I could be worse. Some days are still kinda sucky, but not mega-sucky anymore. The future feels like it’s back to being a possibility, rather than just an area of thought I need to avoid if I want to sleep tonight. In fact, I think I’m going to sleep pretty well tonight.”
Inc magazine’s award winning story shares steps for the right mental health such as spending times with the loved ones, being open about the feelings, limiting financial exposure, exercise, diet, sleep and hobbies.
