Startup culture is wrong about multitasking. Startups wouldn’t exist without the experts, who invented the technologies such as mobiles, internet, biotech etc. Farm labour is one of the most skilled labour/ work.
Professor Mariana Mazzucato wrote The Entrepreneurial State: Debunking Public vs. Private Sector Myths. In an interview to Time she said, “Every major technological change in recent years traces most of its funding back to the state,” says Mazzucato. Even “early stage” private-sector VCs come in much later, after the big breakthroughs have been made.”
Local businesses have jumped to use digital channels for marketing communications. Instead of hiring the experts, which either comes from formal training or academic training, local businesses hire non-experts. Engineers and non-marketing professionals run marketing communications for the local businesses. It means updating social media or running paid ads. A communication designer cannot build a marketing plan or a branding strategy. It requires the rigour of research, strategic planning and contextual tactics.
Local businesses can take on the big businesses by turning their employees into experts. They can train their employees. Training helps in upgrading skills and allows employees to move up the value chain. It also benefits the businesses, as employees stay longer. One small act of self-belief can change the business.
