Hiut Jeans is the last chance for the owners, workers and the town. If they do not succeed as a team, the business will shut down again. In 2001 hundreds of skilled local craftsmen lost their jobs, when the denim factory shut down.
In 2012 David and Clare reopened the factory. They aimed to build a global jeans brand from a small town in Wales. David believed that a selfless team could achieve impossible things. Putting ego aside and putting team first are the most difficult things.
David wrote on Medium, “Now this is the Law of the Jungle -as old and true as the sky. And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf shall break must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, but the Law runneth forward and back — For the strength of the pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack. Rudyard Kipling. The Jungle Book.”
6 things are key to make a team click.
First, culture makes people strong and teams stronger.
Two, trusting the idea of founding the company and mutual trust between the leader and workers.
Three, empathy to understand where the team stands and where it wants to go.
Four, purpose brings the teams together. Team should know what are they changing.
Five, hiring slowly and steadily is key to building a great team.
Last, make work fun with music, coffee, and weekly team breakfasts.
