Restaurants are changing from serving food to its customers to contactless offerings due to Covid (Corona Virus Disease). About 75% of businesses have reported the negative impact due to the social distancing measures.
Fat Rice restaurant started in 2012, serving food from Macau region of China. It also had a lounge and a bakery. Due to the lockdown in Chicago region, it had to lay off 70 employees. They did not give up. Fat Rice is reinventing itself by offering easy to cook meal kits for homes. The kit will comprise of ingredients and recipes to cook at home. Two people can eat from the kit for two days, with leftovers and snacks.
Its founders Abe and Adrienne said, “We feel like we need to adapt to what’s happening,” she said. “That doesn’t mean we’re never going to have regular dine-in customers again. But we feel like that’s not going to be for at least a year, and probably longer.”
Worldwide restaurants are coming up with the new policies such as only take out and delivery. Similar trends are visible in India. In India food delivery orders dropped by 70%. Similar to USA, Indian restaurants are also doubling up as grocery stores.
