The next big QSR will be selling traditional Indian snacks such as Samosa Singh
Samosa Singh is India’s first samosa quick service restaurant (QSR). It only sells samosas- 8 different kinds such as chocolate samosa. Entrepreneurs are creating food brands from the traditional Indian snacks.
Nidhi & Shikhar launched Samosa Singh in October 2015. Both wanted to offer non-greasy samosas with multiple flavours such as ‘kadhai paneer’, ‘chicken Chettinad’ and ‘achari murg’. The shape of their samosas is triangular. The cheapest offering is aloo-masala samosas (2nos.) for INR 43. They make more than 10,000 samosas everyday. Samosa Singh sells through 9 owned outlets and institutional clients like INOX, PVR, Café Coffee Day and TCS. Its revenue may cross INR 10cr.
In his interview to Your Story co-founder Shikhar says, “Every region in our country has its own specialities. But you will find samosas in any part of India. Everyone in India will know what a samosa is. You don’t need to explain.”
As per Technopak, India’s QSR sector will be about INR 22,000cr by 2022. Founder of Faasos claims that India has only 30,000 organised restaurants, of which QSRs are just 13,000. QSRs present a huge opportunity for Indian entrepreneurs.
