Google has predicted the end of digital marketing, as everything has an underlying digital technology. Even the outdoor billboard has gone digital. Digital platforms are just another channel.
Digital marketing is just tactical promotion, which is increasing awareness, interest, brand loyalty and sales after doing everything else. It comes after the brand decides about a product, price and place.
Maketer Samuel J Scott writes, “Marketing is studying a market by looking at things such as SWOT analyses, competitor positioning, price sensitivity, what customers want in a product, potential segmentation and available distribution channels.”
Going forward, the right way is to stop using the word digital marketing, and social media marketing. Instead, brands should focus on online as another channel for advertising ( youtube videos), direct response ( white papers + forms), sales promotions ( coupons), public relations ( influencers).
