Pouring soy sauce resulted in mess, as the the last few drops keep dripping from the bottle or the container. Till 60s, there was no spill proof bottle. Kenji Ekuan invented it.
Kenji Ekuan was a Buddhist monk, before he became an industrial designer. Kikkoman Group contracted him to make soy sauce dispenser. Older sou sauce dispensers were glass bottles, which could not stop soy sauce from dripping after the usage. It took him three years and 101 prototypes. The final product had a red cap, which prevented the leaking. He also designed Japanese bullet train and Yamaha’s super bikes along with countless products such as bed and headphones.
Kenji said, “For anything humans use in their day to day life, they need design and it is a clear and concrete proof of the fundamental human right to live.”
India also requires the products, which combine the local sensibilities and new age technologies. Indian industrial designer Sandip Paul has designed more than 300 products such as toilet paper mug, angular multi plug, square socket, refrigerators with storage for vegetables, India specific LCD TV and easy to use ice tray.
